Cleon is a very likable character, if he had a little more screen time, I believe that we would feel as disrespectful about Swan as Ajax was... just my opinion.
exactly!!!
the story couldn't have advanced the way it did, if he didn't die, dissapear. (take your pick!)
not to mention it add's suspense, and urgency, to the story.
you go to a big gang metting far away from you hood, something goes wrong, your leader get japped right away, and you're still behind enemy lines!!!
don't get much more urgent, than that!! :D

Yeah although it would have been nice to know more about him when he died was the appropriate time. he was the catalystic to start the warriors journey, Luther saw him and noticed it was the same colors as fox who had spotted him so he used it to his advantage, it sucked but it had to be done.

it was sad he died early he was a cool cat ,but it was clear that swan was to be the main character and the story relied on him ,i kinda wish the original movie was longer so we could have seen more of the characters and got to know them better eg ajax, fox, cleon

cleon was a good leader of men and yes he left the film a little prematurely.

but

swan made a damn fine replacement and seemed to be totally at home in that role.

credit where credit is due the directors did a class job on working the screenplay around that situation.

I agree with Ajaxxx a) he as picked the best warrior to have as a name and b) cleon is the war chief and we neeed to see him fight properly. I think that on the film they should have been something a day or two before the meeting where te warriors fight with the destroyers to finf out who the best gang in Coney are and this shoul be where you see cleon and LC fight so we know how good he is of being warchief

The Destoyers and LC are made up in the last year or so.

They have nothing to do with the original film.

well done mercy!
pointing out a good point in what was a pretty poorly argued topic!

withough cleons early fatality (and he does die), there would not have been the ajax/swan face offs!

and ajax would be no where like the great rebel he is in the film with cleon firmly in command. he would be trouble, dont get me wrong, but his vision of taking over warchief fuels his character for the entire film until he gets busted.

the early death of the warchief represents unstability, unpredictability and the danger for the remainder of the night, which are crucial to the film!

Also, it portrays CHAOS THEORY...

that when a CHAOTIC situation emerges, order and structure naturally emerges, (swan taking control and reorganising proceedings)

which represents how CHAOTIC gang life in society actually establishes behavioural norms (a 'normal way to behave'.).

I agree 100% with all of these points.  Except he didn't take over as Warchief, he already was before they left Coney.  :-#

It seemed that Cleon was able to control Ajax more than Swan could, at the beginning of the movie when he told Ajax to keep his mouth shut and soldier, Ajax did just that. If Cleon had lived the group wouldn't have gotten into all the situations with the Lizzies, and the policewoman, they would have stayed in line and that would not have been a very exciting story.

Very true! Cleon had the strongest pull on Ajax. Ajax listened to him, it seemed. I would guess they have a long relationship and probably fought more than once.

yes maybe ajax looked up to cleon ,kinda like a father figure and he would have had major respect for him, also because he figured cleon was one of the few who could out bop him

And Cleon was leader by right---the position was his, no matter where they were, Home or away. So as normal leader, Ajax followed like a good soldier. Swan was more on the same level as Ajax till Cleon wasn't there, so Ajax felt he had the right to challenge.
