Why i keep watching the furys scene

Post by HardcoreSoldier »

It seems no matter how many times i watch this i never get tired or bored of it so i started thinking about why to me its the greatest scene in any movie and why i relate to it so much. Ok so, the warriors just barely escaping the cops in the station make it to the street just to find the furies waiting for them. The way the furies stand there in complete confidence would freak out and intimidate anyone as we see with the expressions on the warriors faces. so i think the warriors first reaction out of fear is to run for their lives, run away from the problem at hand. As the chase continues they realize this is a problem there is no escape from. Ajax's awesome line "good im sick of running from these wimps" says alot. I dont think ajax truly believed they are wimps i think he was scared however, he had to do whatever he could to get ready for the confrontation. After the fight he says "sh*t i figured they were wimps" and always got the feeling that ajax and the rest were kinda surprised at the outcome. So anyway, i think this whole scene kinda sums up life or at least the way life outta be,Overcome your fears and problems and come out on top. Maybe im thinking about it to much. This scene rules for many other reasons, it looks awesome, the music is awesome etc... It's too bad he ruined it with the comic book still in the new version, totally kills the flow as far as im concerned.

Nice post but I do not agree that Ajax was scared of the Furies. He didn't want to run from the Furies. He didn't want to run from the Turnbulls either. He may lose but he is the kind of guy who will take on 20 people himself if he had to.

I guess i could see it that way as well as far as ajax not being afraid. In the script though it seemed to me they kinda make ajax out to be the kinda guy who talks the talk but it's questionable on if he walks the walk. I forget the exact line in the script but he makes a tough comment about something and fox or someone replies with something along the lines of, yeah and you would be the first to run. so i kinda saw the furies scene as if this was ajax's time to actually follow through with his tough talk. just my oppinion though.

dang it gonz!!!
ya beat me 2 it!!! :D

great topic, man!!
nice to seee a "newish" guy, not postin "ajax rules!"

but, i think gonz is right.
i think you're a bit of the mark, with ajax.
there's ALWAYS a couple of guys, who just don't wanna run!!
(don't ask me how i know!!)

one of the worst beating's i ever took, was because i wouldn't run!
my 2 buddie's ran.
(maybe i shoulda have 2, huh?) LOLOL

but you are right about the scene!
there's a lot of different element's, to it.
which is probably why it stand's out.
i myself, find it as one of the "scene's" i'll watch if i'm just runnin through it.
Tried to give the devil my soul...

I think ajax was initially scared. You can see it in his eyes and then hear it in his voice. When Swan said "Maybe we should take off." Ajax doesn't reply "F*ck that." He says, "Y-yeah, right." Hardly a confident response.

But I think the more Ajax ran the more pissed off he got and he was truly glad when Cowboy said he couldn't make it. At that point he really wanted to waste some heads.

i was also a little disapointed with this scene in the new DVD for the same reason. at first the comic book stuff was a fun surprise but really got in the way here, for me.

waht you said about him being initially scared i dont think he is. i think hes confused and startled. they just got chased off the police and he expected to be free when he got out but then he sees these creepy guys with baseball bats and facepaint which startled him a bit

I agree, cowboy rules. The "Yeah right" is a sarcastic response to Swan.

When he asks Swan if they had lost the ** clowns or what you can sense his "fear." But not mouse running from cat fear. More like Lion surrounded by 6 hyena fear. He knows that he could wreck them one at a time. Fear is a useful tool. Another reason it was smart to run for a bit if you know you're in good shape, is that you can kick ass easier against winded opponents. So, I love this scene as well, but the strongest reason for me is the last dialogue between Ajax and Cowboy right before the fight. That is a great moment.

Doesn't sound sarcastic to me at all. The guy is genuinely rattled. The fact that he kind of stutters a little bit when he says it tells you so.
Look at how he stares at the Furies, that's not the look of a guy who wants to throw down in the middle of the street. When Swan says "Maybe we better take off", Ajax knows he's right and he takes off just as quick as the rest of them.

When they stop running and ajax says the did we lose these clowns line he sounds as if he hopes they did lose them. When swan says look and we see the furies heading towards them looking very confident and determined to catch them ajax says holy sh*t as though he's thinking "this is worse than i thought we better haul ass" its not that i think ajax was afraid to fight but like emissary said "Lion surrounded by 6 hyena fear". again though, that is what makes this scene so awesome and stand out. i mean they were right to run as they are so outnumbered but the point being there's a time when you cant run anymore and have to stand together and fight.

When they look up the street to see if they lost the Furies, that's when I think Ajax is beginning to get angry. When Swan says "Hit it", the three of them take off, but Ajax does a double take where you can see he's starting to scowl.
