It's really great that you care so much about you're mom, but you need to calm down before you are the one that gets sick. As a smoker myself, I should be the last person who should be dispensing advice on how to quit  :?, but there are several options.

The most important thing is that the person must want to quit. If you really don't want to quit all the "cures" in the world won't work.

She could go on the patch. I don't know where you live but over here you can get them in any drugstore without a prescription. She could also try the nicotine gum. The best ones are the ones that are on a program that slowly lower the amount of nicotine until it's practically nothing. This way she comes off her nicotine addiction slowly.

There is also hypnosis. I know a couple of people who tried this method and say it really works.

The best thing to do is sit down and talk to her and tell her your concerns. Maybe when she hears how worried you are, she'll be more open to the idea of trying to quit. Also keep in mind, that just because you smoke doesn't automatically mean your going to get cancer (but it sure doesn't help).

I'm sure once she sees how upset you are she'll seriously consider quitting. I'm sure she wants to be around for a long time to see you grow up and start a family of your own. Best of luck to you & your mom!  :)

My grandma handcuffed herself to her bedroom door, told my mom to come by after three days with the key, had some food and stuff on the dresser next to her.

Three days worth of cold sweats, physical pains and delerium, and no more craving!
COLD TURKEY.

Actually, it does take 72 hours for something to get out fo your system for the most part, for instance if someone is dieting, if they don't drink soda for a few days, the desire to really goes away.

I know a few people who used the patch and couldn't handle the reduction and stuff.

oh, man!!
i just quit smoking in december, after 23 years!!
and let me tell ya, it was the single hardest thing, i have ever done in my life!!

i tried that "smoke away"
the natural herb stuff.
and that it just made me feel horrible!!
tired, and drained!
(2 much "natural" i guess!) LOL
my body went into shock!!

"LET'S GET SOME PIZZA, AND BURGERS, IN HERE!!" LOL

but when i did quit, i started off slow.
went from a pack and a half, a day, to 1 cigarette an hr.
and if your'e up, 16, 17, 18 hrs, that's still less than a pack, a day.
and then i went to, 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon, and one before i went to bed.
and then finally 1 a day, when i couldnt take it any more! LOL
took me about 2 week's, to be done, completely.
chewed a lot of gum,and ate a lot of chocolate!!

and like i said, it was tuff!!
but, i feel so much better!!
Tried to give the devil my soul...
She said i had nothing to bargain with...

I gave up about 3 and a half years ago. I loved smoking. I do have the odd one when I have a night out but, I only smoke about 5 a month now.

Have to admit I enjoy those 5 so much. However I get no cravings except when I?m down the pub with a pint in my hand. I haven't had a ciggie for about 4 weeks now but, i'm out this weekend so i'll be like a chimney!

I managed about 6 months without one when I first gave up. I stopped when I went on holiday to Florida as I was so busy I didn?t have time to think about it!

Yeah as a pack a day clove smoker (djarum special NOT black), I feel bad. I told myself I'd quit when I was 21 and could drink in bars. Pffft I didn't know how much you need to smoke when you are out drinking! so awesome job to ya SHM, yer story made me cringe. Right now I'm stuck with Marlboro Projects 8) I do think it's sweet of you Wigan Warrior to care so much about your mom, I agree you should talk to her about how much this is bothering you.
