Why Fox left!

Post by emissary »

It's difficult, for me, to decide on the "Cannonness" of the original script vs. the movie. It makes sense that they both be given cannon status. But in this situation they're conflicting. I feel that Swan was in the perfect place in his life for Mercy. If he could survive the night, he was ready to get a new life started. I hate the idea of him being captured because I see all the Warriors as preferring death over capture.(I know I would rather die than be dragged down to the Furies lair) Mercy grew on him. At first she was dirt to him. Everything about the lifestyle that he hated. But she was tough in the Punks fight and tougher facing the well to do couples.
When he grabbed her on the subway. I think he needed to keep her close so she'd be safe from Ajax. She was sitting next to Fox at the 96th street station. That moment, right before we see the cop through the window is a junction where the scripts seperate. I agree that there is no place in the movie for a feud over love interests. Also, I think Mercy was attracted to Swan. He was clean, so was Fox, but also a strong leader and
protector. Let's keep in mind that she'd only known either of them for a very short time, so how deep could her feelings go at the point of Fox's death.

yes but also she didnt see fox die all she saw was The fox in full grapple with a cop; thats why she said
"cop got him. s'all i know"

(by the way be the one on the bottom in that . that way you kick the cop onto the train. not the oither way around)

I liked the Original Script version because it shows a sort of what would happen if Cowboy went with the Lizzes instead of going against the Furies. Cochise getting killed, and Vermin. But I noticed that Cowboy was supposed to have way more lines then he did in the movie that's all I noticed in the Script.

vermin killed off...... that would have ruined the movie for me. i liked vermin alot. same with mister style; cochise. im glad they didnt die. but its kinda a cop- out for killing off the fox and giving all his lines to swan. but then again actors have huge egos. and directors are the poor shmucks who deal with it

Yes i heard this aswell, Swan was suppose to get caught be he also was suppose to esacape and make it back, the only difference would have been he wouldnt be walking down the beach with mercy at the end, fox would

And it is just my own thoughts-but I always thought that IF Fox would have stayed alive, he and Mercy would have "been" together--simply because Swan wouldn't have fought over her with him, and Fox wanted her more than the others.    When Fox got grabbed/killed  Swan took over more or less taking care of her simply cause she was still there and as leader--there wasn't anyone else that was going to take care of her, that SHE was going to tolerate. But that is just my own thoughts based on my own research into gang hierachy and human nature.

Ranchgal is one of the most respected posters and this post is an example of why.  She is one of those posters that the veterans will look for because they know it's quality.  When I first got here I had some great debates with her about the Warriors and for every detail I gave she gave a good point right back.  Of course everything is cool now.  I just wish she would write more.  8)
PS  I wrote this tribute because I've passed RG on the posts list and I wanted to recognize a wonderful writer.

You have the right to feel that way but you can take it somewhere else.  The Warriors all have value and dissing any of them like that doesn't belong here.  Bye

Whatever Fox's reasons were for leaving, I'm just glad he laid his vocals down on the game. He gets well into his character and you can really hear it.

I heard in the end of the origional script at the end swan nodded at fox and fox took mercy and walked away
