I don't really get depressed i am 13 and i just keep looking on the bright side and don't care like if one of my family members die i will cry diffentely but i knew there in a better place, probably.

People can become depressed at any age. My mother is in her lat 30's, and she gets depressed quite a bit. It's always great to look on the bright side of things, but that can't always get rid of problems. I don't really know what can exactly 'cure' depression, but since you asked for something to help, the only things that come to mind are talking to a close friend or family member about what's making life so terrible, and also gaining an object of inspiration. I have been depressed before (at least I think I have) and I got over it by realizing there's more to life than everything negative, and having an inspiration. Usually people don't like to express the fact that they're depressed, but if they do or not, it's something that can seriously help. I never talked to anyone, but suprisingly got over it in a couple of weeks. I don't know if it's you or someone who you know that is depressed, but either one, try to expose it. It's hard for me to look at everything in a positive manner - as a matter of a fact, I think negative most of the time, but it's something that should try to be avoided. Life isn't too bad, I understand that a lot of people have a life that is terrible, but try to make the most of all the good things in life. Then again, I find that a lot of people think that they are depressed, but actully aren't. They just don't realize that things could be worse. So enjoy what you do have in life.

Also trying plaing something with your friends or play sports that you like and have fun. Also take this yoga class that is supposed to make you laugh. Saw on tv looks like it works. Good Luck

my mate suffers from big time depression.... i just tell him too think of the funnyest thing he has ever done or seen, that normally cheers him up... if that doesnt work i just tell him too think of all the good that is going to come in his life.. i hate seeing people depressed i always feel sorry 4 um and wana giv um hugs.. am a caring person.
what exactly is making u depressed?????????????????? and i wil try and help sum more

Look, I know someone that suffers from "depression" and all I can say is, in the words of Bruce Lee, "there is no help but self-help." Sure, there is clinical depression, but though everyone gets depressed sometimes (to varying degrees in that much of the time we are only just "sad"), but I wil say that some people take it too far. Just don't wallow in your own sorrows, because I doubt that any one person who is rich enough to afford an internet connection, have rented the movie, or even goes to public school or whatever, or even has people to talk to on a place like this really has it that bad.
I'm not sure what's making you sad, if you truly are baffled then going to the doctor should be on your to-do list. And a few months ago I became what could be called depressed, I just felt like doing nothing, was so subconsciously nervous about my own future that I felt absolutely no motivation to do things much but just sit around, not even doing things I liked, just sitting around on the couch or on my bed, doing absolutely nothing. But I'd say you just have to find something to do. Just something. Watch a movie you like. get out, heck, go buy something expensive (I'll admit I'm a consumer too, there's really no shame in it -- just avoid the deadly glance of that bearded white guy on those early morning commercials where he's like "on 3 cents a day this child could learn to read..." you get the idea).
or just decide that you don't know, like I did, that I shouldn't care that much about the future, so my life is somewhat like a whooshing through existence (i like to relate it to the scene in Black Hawk Down where Josh Hartnett is in the middle of the dust cyclone from the helicopter backwash), just learn to focus on something you like, make it constructive. I really do feel a lot happier about things, and I recently started doing Jeet Kune Do again and weight lifting, etc, so even though my mom may not always like the fact that I'd rather lift weights or shadowbox instead of studying, it's something I really like, and can do for free.

But if it continues just go to a doctor. I mean, you probvably do feel good, it's just that it's only say, 10% of your day, while "dpression" in the other 90%, just work on slowly expanding the smaller number.
Oh, and I'm almost 18 myself, so perhaps we are thinking about the same things, schooling, etc. I thin kit's important that a perosn just accept himself. Myself, I've chosen to do two years comm, colege, then transfer to a state college. I think that too much presure is put on us to decide what we "want to be," and doing the admirable straight-to-the-workfore or vocational school is so looked down upon. In ten years man, it's gonna be the plumber who has more money that the Harvard law graduate. The times, they are-a-changing. By going what some would consider a lesser route, it's a lot cheaper, and I can live very easily considering the huge amount of money I'd saved up when I expected myself to go to an expenseive art school. But once again, I have lots of things to be thankful for, and I figured I'd just be a whiny b**** in feeling bad about myself for too long.

This is the kind of thing you can't get over from looking at the bright side of things. Depression is like a condition. What you should do is tell someone (us) and maybe ask a doctor what is best. Maybe a psychiatrist. Hope you feel better soon.

Mr. Rem, I think you should go to a career day or job councelor---I think the times have changed very much where what you should do is dictated by what you want to do and could do long term, sometimes the tech and science work schools are the way to go big time.
My son just graduated and started a 2year tech course in automated manufacturing.
You are right when you say the plumbers and electricians are going to (they are right now) make a lot of money doing what they trained for.
Like some of the people you talked about--We encouraged him to think 4 year, but he figures if he gets the two year degree, he can see where it leads him, and if he decides to go on, he can using the classes he is taking now as a transfer later.
And several teachers I know and a couple guidence councelors told me to let my kid go to the tech school, he will get up to date training, and won't have such a tremendous debt load when he graduates either, like if he would have gone to a 4 year school.
4 year colleges definately have their place, and in the end yes the Doctors, lawyers and some engineers will be making big bucks--but big bucks doesn't always translate to security or happiness--though not having to worry about $ for paying the rent is a good thing.
But tech trained people will always have the training and if you look at the fields and can go where the work demand is--you can do better than just okay. Does it matter what "people" think? If you finish a training course--it is the fact that you finished and took another level of education that matters most to most employers I know. They need people with drive, that won't be quitting or dropping out, if you have a degree, be it 2 year or 4 year--it matters!! I have a 4 year, and have never used it to make my living--could have skipped it all together and wouldn't be worse off--but just having it--as a possible fall back makes it easier to know I could do something else if I needed too.

If you are depressed about a certain situation, you can probably work through it with a postivie attitude and remembering Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to what happened. You are the only person who can actually do something about your attitude toward the day-if you start postive--it certainly will help things stay that way.
But if you feel like this is something you can't deal with, or you feel too lost for too long---it may also be a chemical imbalance, and you NEED to see a Doctor-and possibly consider medication and or therapy---it will be worth it to not feel lost so much of the time. Just my opinion-as I am not a medical person, but have a clinically depressed person in my family.
