The St. Karaoke Sisterhood (UPDATED 4/6/06)

Post by Space Toaster »

A/N: This is just a short introduction story for a gang I created myself. And it?s intended to be a funny story, cause the SKS is a weird bunch.

The St. Karaoke Sisterhood
By Sarah Bross

Part 1

A girl no older than seventeen ran down the street, holding onto a backpack slung over her shoulder. She reached up with one hand to readjust her black ski cap as she ran, which had started to slip over her eyes. She stumbled, nearly tripping over her baggy jeans, and kept running until she reached the abandoned roller rink. She stopped running and walked around to the back entrance. She opened the door and walked in.

?Hey, you guys, I?m back.? She called out, putting down her backpack and taking out a camera. A short dark-haired girl came over.

?Where were you, Bucket?? She asked, crossing her arms over her chest. It was a habit of hers.

?Just getting some more film for my camera, Shrimp.? Bucket said, lifting her camera and snapping a picture of the girl. Shrimp rolled her eyes and walked away.

?You and your cameras,? She mumbled. Bucket snickered and walked out to where the other girls were. They were seated on beanbag chairs, armchairs, beat-up couches, or some just sat on the floor. Their Warlord, Tinsel sat sideways in an armchair. She was a short stocky girl with brown hair. When she talked, it could be seen she still had braces on her teeth. She pulled a clipboard out from under the chair.

?Just to make sure we?re all here. Chinadoll??

The Warchief was a petite, oddly-dressed girl with green eyes and black hair. She held up her hand. ?Here!?

?Flower??

The gang?s writer was a cute girl with sandy blond hair. She was also what many would consider a hippie. She raised her hand, she wore a lot of beaded bracelets. ?Yep.?

?Shrimp??

?Yo.? Shrimp said, slouching in a beanbag chair.

?Havana??

Havana was a blond girl with her hair in a ponytail on the side of her head. She was also known as ?The Loud One?

?Here, and I?m FABulouth!? She said, squeaking the last word in a campy voice, complete with a lisp. One of the girls snickered and threw a throw pillow at her. Tinsel chuckled and continued roll calling.

?Thelma??

?Here, hee-hee!? Thelma was a brunette with very wide eyes. She was constantly giggling.

?Jazz??

?Huh?? Jazz woke up from snoozing on the couch. She had thick brown hair, long eyelashes, and half-lidded eyes, giving her face a ?sleepy horse? look. ?Oh?yeah, I?m here.? She fell asleep on the couch again.

?Bucket??

The bearer was a freckle-faced girl with red-brown hair, snapped a photo of herself, the flash announcing her presence.

?Cobalt, Azure and Cerulean??

The three blue-haired (dyed) scouts sprawled out on the floor raised their hands.

?Yo.? Cobalt simply answered.

?Whatever.? Azure rolled her eyes.

?Yep-yep-yep!? Cerulean chirped.

?Floret? Blossom??

Two twin girls with strawberry blond hair looked up from their books. They were Flower?s younger sisters and served as memory.

?We?re here.? They responded in creepily perfect unison.

?Mermaid??

Mermaid was a wiry girl with blue-green (dyed) hair. She slouched further in her seat.

?Yeah, yeah, whatev.? She mumbled.

?Giraffe??

Giraffe was a very tall girl with a long neck and her hair dyed blue. She pulled her long legs in and sat on the floor Indian-style.

?Here.? She said plainly.

?And last but not least, Ladybird.?

Ladybird, who was a redhead with a deadpan look on her face simply crumpled up a piece of paper and threw it, hitting Tinsel in the head. Tinsel threw the clipboard over her shoulder.

?Peachy, everyone?s here. So?what was this meeting for anyway??

The other girls shrugged.

Heh, this was a pretty good first chapter. I can definately see the 'gang parody,' going on and it kind of reminds me of The Wanderers, the other big gang-themed film released at the time of The Warriors. Please continue.

Part 2
The Girls

Seeing as Tinsel had completely forgotten why she called the meeting in the first place, everyone just sat around and hung out with one another. Floret and Blossom were flipping through some huge book together while Flower was scribbling on her sketchpad. Cerulean, Azure and Cobalt were talking about the time they tied some kid to a flagpole in junior high. Jazz and Thelma were fooling around with the radio, trying to find a station that played Led Zeppelin. Giraffe and Ladybird were having a staring contest with Havana as the referee. Tinsel was flipping through a comic book, while Chinadoll mixed various stuff in a bowl. Mermaid was trying to see how long she could stand on her head. Shrimp and Bucket sat together on the floor.

Shrimp looked through Bucket?s shoebox of photos. She held up a photo of a guy on a street corner. He wore a Stetson hat and wasn?t facing the camera.

??Why do you have so many pictures of that guy from The Warriors?? Shrimp quirked an eyebrow.

Bucket?s face turned pink. ?Um?well, you see?? She sputtered. ??No reason.?

Shrimp grinned and wagged the photo of Cowboy in front of Bucket?s nose.

?You liiiiiike him.? She teased, causing Bucket to sputter some more and turn even pinker.

?N-no! I don?t like him.? She insisted. Shrimp put her hands on her hips and gave her a knowing look.

Bucket sighed. ?Is it that obvious??

Shrimp tossed the photo back into the shoebox and patted the girl on the back.

?Bucket, dearie, you could see it from space.?

?Ugggh?? Bucket groaned and pulled her ski cap down over her bright pink face. Flower giggled, put down her sketchbook and pranced around Bucket singing the old ?sittin?-in-a-tree? rhyme. Cobalt picked up a throw pillow and flung it, hitting the hippie-girl in the head.

?What are YOU laughing at, hippie? You like that other guy from The Warriors, what?s-his-name??

Flower stopped prancing to let out a love-struck sigh and put a hand over her heart.

?Rembrandt.? She sighed, fanning herself with her other hand. ?What a guy.?

Shrimp rolled her eyes. She stood up walked out of the room muttering. ?I think I?m going to be sick.?

Azure snickered and elbowed Cerulean. ?We scared off the Shrimp.?

Cerulean looked at her with a raised eyebrow. ?And that?s a bad thing because??

?I heard that!? Shrimp?s voice came from the other room. The other girls just ignored her. Chinadoll spoke up.

?That?s nothing. Mermaid over there? She likes Ajax.?

?AJAX?? The other girls echoed in unison. They all looked at Mermaid, who at this point was not standing on her head.

?Why Ajax?? Tinsel asked her, raising an eyebrow. Mermaid crossed her skinny arms over her chest, blushing in embarrassment.

?I don?t like him.? She insisted.

Floret and Blossom, who were listening to the conversation, exchanged glances and nodded.

?Denial.? They said in their creepy unison.

?Huh?? Mermaid looked at the twins. They looked up at her.

?You?re in denial,? Blossom explained.

?And we don?t mean the river!? They spoke in unison again. Mermaid rolled her eyes and got up to go sulk with Shrimp.

?What-EVER.? She muttered.

The remaining girls in the room burst out laughing.

?And we call ourselves a gang!? Havana chortled, slouching further in her seat.

?Tch, more like a bunch of hormone-driven ?teen grrlz? with no life!? Tinsel chuckled.

It grew quiet and awkward as the laughter died down. Uncomfortable with the silence, Thelma scooted over to Chinadoll, peering over her shoulder into the bowl she was mixing things in.

?Whatcha making, China-beans?? She asked. Thelma had a thing for adding ?beans? onto the end of people?s names.

?Beanshake.? Chinadoll answered simply, pouring the unrecognizable sludge into a blender. The girls all looked at each other.

?Dare I ask what a ?beanshake? is?? Cobalt said, poking Cerulean for no reason.

?Ice cream, a little bit of Gatorade, chocolate chips, cheese whiz, and of course,? She dumped a fistful of purple jellybeans into the blender with the sludge. ?Jellybeans.?

Tinsel looked at the other girls. ?Say it with me, ladies!?

They all stuck their fingers down their throats and made gagging noises. Chinadoll rolled her eyes and put the lid on the blender.

?Whatever. You just don?t appreciate my genius.? She said, turning the blender on and letting her unholy bean sludge mix together. A few seconds later, Chinadoll pouring a thick purplish goop into a glass and held it up.

?Who wants a taste??

The girls all inched away from her.

?Hmph! Fine, more for me than.? She took a sip of the thick slime. ?Hm?needs marshmallows.? She took another sip. ?And maybe a little hot sauce.?

The girls all made a face and shook their heads. Obviously, Chinadoll?s head was in another place, as well as her taste buds. It died down to silence again.

?So?um, Flower, how?s your mom doing?? Jazz asked. Flower looked up from her drawing.

?She?s doing a little better, she?s still very weak though. It?s going to be a long time before she comes home, though.? She sighed, closing her sketchbook. ?And Dad?s barely home of course, juggling all these jobs to pay the bills??

Not liking how sad it was suddenly getting, Chinadoll sprung in on the conversation. ?Hey, why don?t you and I take the twins and go visit her? I bet she?d like the company.?

Flower smiled. ?Good idea, China.?

?If you take the subway you should be there in time for visiting hours.? Tinsel said, getting up. ?I say go for it. I?m going to stay here and hold down the fort.?

?Anyone else want to go?? Chinadoll asked, looking around.
Bucket spoke up. ?I?ll go, it?s a good chance to take some photos.?

Mermaid nodded. ?Meh, I don?t have anything better to do.?

Havana sat up from lying down on a couch.  ?I?m game.?

?Me too.? Cerulean said. She looked at her two best friends, Azure and Cobalt. ?You guys up to it??

?Nah, we?ll pass. But you better tell Flower?s mom ?hi? from all of us though!? Cobalt answered.

The girls nodded and got up from their seats. Blossom remembered something and spoke up.

?I just remembered?the hospital?s somewhere past Tremont, that?s The Orphans? turf.? She said.

Shrimp snorted. ?Feh, The Orphans! That Sully guy?s a wimp! If you run into trouble, kick their butts!?

?OR, we could just explain we don?t mean to cause trouble and just ask nicely to pass through.? Flower said, looking at Shrimp. ?It?s called using your head, AKA the lump three feet above your ass.?

Shrimp shrugged. ?Whatever floats your boat.?

The girls all gathered up their stuff and headed out the door.

Little did they know, however, of the danger that awaited their arrival in Tremont, and that this was the day that would change their lives forever.

Okay, the story's definately jumped a hell of a long way from gangs now. It's starting to remind me of those girly shows on Nickelodeon (*boke*), though at a guess, is it going to get darker? I like the whole crush thing, but seriously, be a little more careful because if these girls consider themselves a gang, any two-bit outfit could attack and wipe them out.
