Meaning of this scene ?
Meaning of this scene ?
Hey, there is one scene which i like very much: the one with Swan and Mercy in the train while a double dating couples walk in and sit next to them.

What do you think that scene ment to show us ?
I think its a very powerful moment..Here we have the warriors who fight for their life to get home, with every gang on their tail and danger is around any corner.
Opposite to them are reguelar teens, making their way home from a date. we can guess they both the same age, yet how diffrent are their way of life.
Whats your opinion on this scene ?
P.S- sry if this was asked before, i really like some new perspective on this, Thanks.

Near the end of that scene as Mercy goes to fix her hair [Remember she had just been through the punk fight] but Swan lowered hear hand. This shows that Swan accepts her the way she is.

Re: Meaning of this scene ?
i always had an idea for this scene that i thought might be cool.
when the couples walk in, one of the guys has their sleeve rolled up and you can see he has a warriors tattoo, showing he was once a warrior. but when he sees swan, he covers it up to show that that part of his life is over. which causes swan to think he can still change his life around to.
watcha guys think?

Re: Meaning of this scene ?
I agree with swanstar on this one. I think it was just more of a contrast, you've got a battle stricken couple who have been through hell all night, Swan and Mercy. On the other side, prom couples looking their best. Mercy tries to fix herself up but Swan accepts her the way she is.

Thanks Prozium.

Re: Meaning of this scene ?
Well Cowboy, i think its a nice addition but it'll give the scene a whole diffrent meaning.
According to your idea we get the idea that there is a better future for the warriors, that they can climb out of the gutter if they want and live a safe productive life.
According to the original scene we can observe two opposites like prozium said: The Thugs and the prom teens.
The whole movie is set on a dark ghost-like city, we can see diffrent gangs which quite frankly not alot of us would like to meet in a dark alley.
So after seeing the cold streets, the bloodthirsty mobs and creepy mystrious fellows we get to see a regular couple coming home from a date or something- this links us to real life, showing us that all though the movie's NYC seems like hell on earth, normal people still lives there and the nights are not entirely for the gangs.

Because as a new member, you wrote an organized, intelligent post with a decent point.

Re: Meaning of this scene ?
Well to me this scene is purely for contrast.
We see the Warriors, dirty, exausted, who have being running for their lifes all night, who are also most likely to be angry to some extent on one side. And on the other side we have 2 clean, happy couples who have been out enjoying themselves all night and not having a care in the world. Its to show just how bad their night has been, I think. It is a final push to emphasise that they literally have been through hell.
I also think this scene tries to show Mercys desire to get away from all the poverty and crime and to look nice (as she has the potential to) just the same as the girls on the other side when she tries to fix her hair to try and disguise the dirt and sweat, etc.
And finally by Swans actions in this scene shows how the Warriors feel. After their night of solid running and paranoia, they are frankly too tired and at the same time determined not to take crap off of anyone and to prove that they are just as good as the 'upper' citizens.
Wow, that was like one of the most sophisticated things I've ever wrote down by myself LOL

Re: Meaning of this scene ?
thats kind of what i was thinkin CowboyRules, i also think its used to make us even more sympathetic toward the Warriors for two reasons.
1. If that was near enough any other gang in the whole city they would be all over the 2 couples swarming around them and making a fool of them
2. Also it also shows the choice that each member of the warriors has made in becoming a warrior and leading this life even though if they so chose they could have pushed to try and have the same lives as the kids coming back from a dance (prom, whatever).
Also, this is a great question Einherjar

Good point, the warriors are indeed coming off noble (Or are very tired from running and fighting all night).
Imagine the same scene with the Turnbull A.C's insted of the warriors

well, also imagine he same scene if ajax was there. it would be completely different. i think that would be the point in the movie where swan finally gets sick of ajax and they rumble.Einherjar wrote: "1. Re: Meaning of this scene ?
When Swan grabs Mercy's hand it's like he's sayin "They're no better than you. You don't have to change for them." Swan respects Mercy the ways she is and it shows that Mercy is some what insicure about the way she looks and the way she lives. I think this is also made apparnt in the sub way when she goes on about that she wants somthing now. As said above it is also a contrast showing that there are many paths to take during life and it is never too late to change. You can take the path of the gang life or the complety oppisate, clean cut American kid path.
