No BJJ is MMA's daddy! :D All of the submissions come from BJJ. Think of the early days of UFC with Royce gracie! he tore everyone up just from his BJJ skills alone!
BJJ is also JKD's daddy!

How about JKD can be mma's gay sister :?: :?:   :D

Im taking kick boxing, more really for a really good cardio work out to go with my weight training, but i mean, i do want to learn how to fight, and compete, and the way i see it kick boxing is a very good place to start, learn how to throw some really well rounded punches and kicks, then ill probolly move to ju-jitsu, most of the top MMA (mixed martial arts) incase ne1 didnt know  ;)  are placed in ju-jitsu and kick boxing.

I do throughally belive that being a good fighter, no martial arts or anything can be just as good though. Having a style that no one can judge and just a strong punch and beat anyone.

Well said. JKD is a concept of mixing martial arts to fit into different situations. Bruce was doing it back in the 60s and early 70s back when the Gracies were relatively unknown. I'm cool with your favoritism of Jiu-jitsu, but the use of jiu-jitsu in the UFCs inspired those who were taking punch-kick type martial arts to take up some grappling. Gracie rocked the world back in UFC 1 and 2, but nowadays every UFC, PRIDE, and K-1 fighter knows a mix of everything.

And you're silly to not think of JKD and MMA as basically the same thing.

The best striking art is muay thai! Known for its brutal elbows, kicks, knees, punches, and maybe head butts! :)
The best grappling art is BJJ known for its brutal arm breaking joint locks and chokes! :D
MMA is the best MA of every art combining muay thai, BJJ,Judo,Wrestling,JKD,Boxing and anything else you can think of!

Thats what JKD does, and what it has done since day one.

In my class alone we focus on western boxing, Muay Thai, and BJJ the most, along with a few moves that Bruce thought up originally. www.imbacademy.com "Mixed" Martial Arts spawned from the Jeet Kune Do philosophy of taking whatever fighting techniques are useful in a fight nomatter what style. Bruce trained in many styles, even so far as to train in knife throwing and fencing (for the footwork). Thanks to Lee the 70s launched the martial arts into the mainstream in America (beyond post-WWII karate, that is), and thanks to him people like the Gracies could be accepted learning a Japanese martial art and then perfecting it to their own taste, thus, Brazillian jiu-jitsu. JKD fathered the concept of MMA, and so many other things that we take for granted in the martial arts world today. The only difference is that JKD is meant for streetfighting solely, while most MMA training is geared towards competition.

We're running in circles with this thread, unless we come up with some new conversations I'm gonna stop posting in it. Peace.

I used to be in Kempo (not for long because it got boring), I was also in Cheetahroo Karate (closed down 1 week before getting my Yellow Belt) I was in Tae Kwon do But That was also shut down and another Tae Kwon do which I quit because I was also bored.
(the reason why the Cheetahroo and the first tae kwon do shut down is because there are not enough people joining martial arts.)

Where do you live? I don't mean to sound racist, but the asian ppopulation in a neighborhood greatly affects the success of MA schools.

It's a shame all of these classes are all closed.
There used to be a Karate class around where I live, and a Tae Kwon Do around my friends house. I would've loved to take any of those classes, but too late.

Also, my brother was in Karate when he was younger.

However, I honestly really doubt these can ever be effective in a fight, only because every fight turns into a weird wrestling match, and I've experienced these.

Well I can't say much for stuff like Kung fu, Karate, TKD, its for show and sport. Boxing, JKD/MMA, jiu-jitsu, those are effective in a real fight.

Silly school fights end up on the ground so sloppily because those guys usually don't know how to box, or even hit.

My brother says Karate is just defense.

Well when I expected a fair fight, I avoided wrestling as much as possible.
But apparently everyone actually goes for wrestling, so it didn't turn out so well for me.
I suppose actual wrestlers have the advantage.

Yeah a lot asians do Ma's! :)
In this one place near me it's made up of thai, vietnamese, and idian restraunts. And there is also a Korean Karate place there!
This one chinese kid in my grade "Jackie Chan" does Aikido which is pretty much a useless MA!
But some moves are alright like wrist locks and finger locks for when people come at you.

yeah the only way aikido moves work is if you are in competition.

But still, I wouldn't mess with a guy who's been doing aikido for 60 years.

Well we don't get into technicalities but yeah there are disarmament moves that alow you to snap their wrist inward if you want, among other thing. Basically think any move where you'd tap your sparring partner when you've had enough....if that was in a real fight.

The thing with JKD is it's exircise in overwhelming someone. Like, you don't just stop once you block, you block and counterattack in the same move, then beat his face in, break an arm, a wrist, (my teacher likes to get people with their own weapons), and when he is hunched over from getting his bones broken, kick him in the face, or the ribcage, then when he's down you kick him in the chin to put him out.

Then take his wallet and keys. lol

But if it's a useful wrist lock (or whatever move) it's cool to use. The thing with the classes, i go for about four or five hours a week, but it's really up to you outside of class to practise at home, exircise, go in for some extra practice, etc to develop your personal thing.

I talked to parents about doing BJJ and they said it was cool! 8) :D
The reason i would pick BJJ to do is because it has no punching (i don't want to get punched or get my knuckles hurt). BJJ is all you really need in a fight
step1: Take it to the ground
step2: Get a dominating postion
step3: Break the persons arm :D
step4:Get up and say what now beatch!
But if jkd had bjj techniques it most be pretty good!
Wrist lock is useful for breaking someone's wrist when they grab your shirt or try to choke you!
