Has the Warriors Dated at all ?

Post by Peterp »

I watched it again last night and it hasn't dated as much as i thought it had when i rewatched it last year.

It has dated a bit for sure but the substance is still there, the gritty storyline and drama

The fight in the toilet still has as much impact now as it ever has.

well i think if you're a big fan of anything, to the point that most of us are,(to the point of geeky about it!) it's gonna be pretty much timeless isn't it? but i do know what you mean, movies from childhood, and earlier times in life, you see them at later times in your life, and they just don't have the impact that they once had. ya know ya think man i thought this was cool??? but i have yet to grow tired of this movie! i still watch it 3-4 times a week, it's been my favorite movie since it came out, in 79' i was 11. and now my children love it as well.

I don't think it's dated in a bad way.

You can tell it's old but, it's not like a load of sci-fi films that now look very dated.

It looks good for being old as it was the perfect time to make the film. 5 years earlier or later and i don't think it would have dated well.

Yup lack of special effects (unless you want to count the molotov) helps a lot, you don't cringe at obvious effect attempts, cause there aren't any. The only things I can laugh at are the super tight jeans and the hair.

This forum is cool...intelligent people here...:)

The movie isn't dated for me. When I watch this or the Godfather I am still taken to that really cool time period and enjoy it for what it is. Back in those days gangs handled things with fists, bats, chains, the occasional knife, and even the one-off psycho like Luthor who packed a rod. Today things are so damn screwed - it's so much easier to blow someone away from a moving car than to face and fight them. I often wonder how well these Crips and Bloods would fare had they engaged in a fight like the Furries/Warriors brawl in the park. That was a fight, my friends!

For me, this film stands the test of time because I refuse to recognize the stupidity of this time frame, I guess...LOL.

For me the only thing that has dated is the cars and clothing in the movie as compared to today. Also the cinematography is obviously not of today's standards, but the movie is just as good in my opinion if not better. I think this movie has aged like a fine wine. There will probably be youth 50 years from now that will watch this movie and get hooked just like we have.
