Graffiti Research Lab

Post by Harley »

For all of you graffiti artists out there, or just those of you who like graffiti in general I highly recommend this site http://graffitiresearchlab.com/, these guys are taking street graffiti into the 21st century.  I'll never get tired of the old school styles or all the the pieces being thrown up right now, but these guys have taken tagging to a whole new level that attracts alot of attention and even invites audience participation.  Plus it has some instrucutional videos on how to copy their techniques.

ya thats pretty cool

im more into old school writing

I like the night writers

ive never seen this type of writing before, its different, kinda like a neon sign

the only thing that im afraid of is paying too much money then it not working or falling off

are the lights big? I need somthing small because I broke my thin cap off one of my cans so now i have nothing small.

The lights are pretty small Oxygen, like the kind in lite bright, and the batteries they put them on are like the kind you put in watches and hearing aids, really small.  The magnets are these really small ultra strong kind that are less than a 1/4 inch.  I would say that these guys do some major fund raising, like a tone of dance parites, then go out and kinda do a performace piece so they can record it.  But I like the fact that you really can't get into any major trouble with the poilce doing it this way and that it draws in a lot of people to watch and take part.

I had seen those websites before. That's how I found the gigantic Warriors mural in Manhattan!

That's actually a large projection of a recording, like on a movie screen only they're projecting on a building.

I'm at it again guys, I found this site: http://www.hektor.ch/ which has a contraption made up of pulleys hooked up to a computer that allows a spray can to take on the qualities of an ink jet printer.  Just program your design into the computer and it will be painted on the wall for you.  Being a graffiti artist in the 21st century just gets easier and easier. :D

There is a great article in the new New York Magazine (with Woody Allen and Scarlett Johanson on the cover) called "Graffiti in Its Own Words - Old timers remember the golden age of the art movement that actually moved".  It covers NY artists from 1969-1981 discussing their craft and NY in the 70s in general.  A must read for fans of graffiti.

I came across this in my web travels, a graffiti report card.  Tired of the toys messing up your neighborhood?  Want to let the talented writers know you like what they're doing?  Just print out then slap a report card up by their piece.
