I forget which one, that had a picture of the metal group Manowar in their 80's heyday, and they made a joke like damn if they don't look like a homosexual group, all their loincloths and everything!
And as a metalhead, I can tell you that the Manowar image was quite disturbing! :)

I'm sure Michael Beck was kidding, but damn, of all places for a Warriors reunion...Texas???

The article in the new LOOK does actually state the storyline was a fact that was then discarded before filming it. So Michael Beck wasn't joking. but I am glad they discarded that part and didn't film it that way.

The people who run an indoor theater-playhouse/outdoor theater/skating rink in Houston ?(I think or else Austin) Texas called :
The Alamo Drafthouse. They put on events with "cult" classic movies, where they show the movies, get as many of the stars as they can, and are available, and sort of throw a party for these films. the year after they had the 25th anniversary party for the Warriors, Michael Beck came back and took part in the screening/skating party they put on for the 25th anniversary of Xanadu too.

they have an outdoor screen, like the old drive in movies, and an indoor that also can do live play/theater productions.

The Alamo Drafthouse is based in Austin, but we've got two locations here in Houston. I don't know about Austin, but there are no outdoor theaters in the Houston locations. We do, however, have showings of cult movies. The tv show I work on would host "Weird Wenesdays" were we'd show really good, crazy, goofy, silly, horrible movies, at free admission.

They've added some new trivia to the Warriors page on IMDB (at least it's new to me, I haven't been on there for a while). It now says:

Thomas G. Waites, who portrayed "Fox" in this movie, had his name struck from the credits because he was dissatisfied with the script and its quality. For this reason, director Walter Hill had Waites' character perish (much to the dismay of many fans) while grappling with a cop in the subways.

I find this hard to believe, I mean the script for The Warriors kicks ass, particularly the dialogue. Not that I've read it (hint hint Soldierheavymuscle  ). Surely Waites read it though and initially liked it, otherwise he wouldn't have accepted the role. I think he either figured something better had come along in '...And Justice For All' or he simply fell out with Walter Hill. Hopefully, on the Special Edition DVD someone will confirm, once and for all, exactly why he left.

HELP-question--who did he play in OZ?? I watched that frequently, and I can't remember ever seeing him--did he change alot ??? LOL
Course I don't really remember him with Al either--so he must not have been a real stand out there either. But maybe I just wasn't paying the right amout of attention.

Well from what Walter Hill said in the LOOK interviews---I got the feeling it was mutual anamosity between TW and WH---TW may have been dissatisfied with either the script or the way the role was playing out or both, and WH thought he had NO chemistry for the role he was cast in--and because MB was showing LOTS of chemistry, they started re-emphasizing the roles and that is when TW quit/was killed off--which ever came first--kinda like the chicken and the egg!LOL

I always liked Fox, second to Swan--but I have to agree, I didn't see him making any major contributions except with the exceptional street smarts he showed, course that was his assignment anyway--but he was good at information. I never really saw any chemistry between Mercy and ANY of the guys--actually I thought she would have been better with Ajax than anyone.
I saw her/Fox as forced and her/Swan as almost NOT there--AJax would have lit her fire more than any of the others if he hadn't gotten taken down. ( Course he would have treated her like trash too-so I doubt she would have actually stayed with him for any length of time.) LOL

If I was Thomas Waites, I'd have been relieved to find out that I no longer had to kiss Mercy. :)

I do think the Swan and Mercy romance worked better than a Fox and Mercy romance would have, and as for Ajax and Mercy, I agree with you, that could've worked, he's the kind of bad boy that a lot of women like her go for, but he'd probably be a bit too bad for her. We all know he likes it rough.

I can see that.-LOL

The only thing I did see between Fox and Mercy was he acted like he really wanted her along. HE kept grabbing her arm, and making sure she was close to him--I didn't see much reaction from her towards him though either.

I also always wondered how she would have done with Vermin??
He is sort of the type she likes, he is nicer than Ajax, not as pretty as Fox or Swan-but tough enough to be dangerous--but he was never in a position to really enact anything with her-so we'll never really know. :D

Mercy and Vermin don't seem like a good match to me--he's too loopy for her. Besides, even with all the BS that went down, the way it played out fit pretty well. I mean, swan was 2nd in command anyhow, he should have gotten the girl.

Ajax wouldn't have been able to hold on to Mercy without showing a softer side eventually, which does not strike me as Ajax-like...

But let's face it, Mercy would have gotten on with any of the guys, for one night at least (well, except maybe for my boy Rembrandt...)
Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage...

Ranchgal wrote:JaimePike--I apologise for below-You were right to pass on the information , even if it would have turned out to be a rumor.-I did find the interview where it is stated about the posting about Swan being captured!!! that being said--the reason they didn't go that way, was because it was 1979--and the studio wouldn't back such a move!! BUT WATCHING HIM ESCAPE, MAY HAVE BEEN WORTH IT-omg did I say that!!yikes!!!!

Can you direct me to the interview where he said anything like that??

I have several recent interviews, and several OLD interviews by Michael Beck, including one in Texas at the Alamo Drafthouse where they had a big screening of The Warriors for its 25 anniversary.

First thing you have to remember--is in 1979---there wasn't anything that came out of Sol's book with any such references to any homosexuality---and there is no way the writers would have put something like that in it---They wouldn't have made ratings for general distribution in the US with that--unless just like they did with Ajax--if he got caught by any rival gang--you would just NEVER see him again. ANd even if the screenwriters had changed the concepts that much to include anything like that---The whole concept of "gay " lifestyles were just barely coming out at that time---I mean Midnight Cowboy caused a scandle-so I just don't see them incorporating any concepts like that in a movie about "teen-age" gangs.
Sorry, but unless I could actually really read that --I would NOT believe it--There really isn't any place for that whole mentality within the context of the movie--the closest they come is The Lizzies.

If you PM me with the directions, and I actually can see it--I'll come back and recant this--but every interview I have ever read from MB hasn't had anything remotely touching any thing like it.

I think Fox disappeared and ended up killed in the movie because I seem to remember some rumblings about creative differences !! Common occurance to characters who have too many of their own ideas. But some of the stills I have, and candid pictures say he was there and paying attention---and lets face it---he lasted longer than Cleon.
oh by the way i just got the script, and i hate to break it to you but your boy swan, m.b. most definately WAS abducted by a gang of pop-tarts called "the dingo's"!! lololol...sorry. that's probably not the correct term, but damn funny all the same!! i haven't gotten to a part about wether or not "anything" happens yet. when they first get em, they're plan is to turn him into the riff's, and then it cut's to other warriors and where they're at in the story. sorry doll!! :(

In the beginning of the film when the characters are introduced, we see all the Warriors except Fox, I wonder if this part of the film was done after he left, or Fox's part was just edited. I think it was just cut out

Maybe as it says on the site, this was done after because the begging was going to show the warriors in daylight but then the decuded the only part to be shown in daylight should be at the end so the they had to frow that together and fox had already left
You never know?

ok this is like the second or third time i've heard this, what the hell are you guys talking about??? :? the opening credits? where they list the actors? or the actual beginning scene? cause if you guys are talking the opening scene, the deleted scene, where cleon hands out the assignments, you guys are nutts!!! fox is in there!! i know they don't list his "name" at the beginning, with the rest of the warriors. that's what we're talking about, right?
