Michael Beck jail movie.
I remember watching this movie with my uncle and father about 'swan' (Michael Beck) in jail. 'Swan' goes to a jail thats run by two inmates - a little big mouth and his big goon enforcer that goes by the name of BIRD. The two inmates finally get 'swan' to fight and 'swan' takes his pillow sheet and fills it with unopened soda cans and beats the shit out of BIRD and the little big mouth with the sack! When i watched that movie with Michael Beck it was from a BETA tape. Anybody remeber BETA tapes lol? What i was wondering is, does anybody remember what the name of that movie was?

The movie your talking about is called "Bad Boys" the name is not a rip off it pre dates the Will Smith movie. Here in Ireland a T.V station called TG4 aires it every few years. Michael Beck plays a small time thug who accidently runs over a small kid well in a high speed chase, it turns out the kid was the little brother of the leader of a vicious street gang, Beck is quickly caught by the police and after a quick trial is a landed in prision or rather a borstal. Well in Prison the two two ruling thugs Bird and Tweete give him a hard time and, like you said, he fills a pillow case with cans and gos to town on the poor saps which in turn makes him the boss until someone does the same to him. Meanwhile the leader of the street gang that is after Beck purposly lets the police catch him so he can be locked up with Beck. Tweete is realised from prision but is shot and killed afer atempting to hold up a liquir store. Bird and the Gang leader team up. But Bird is taken out of the picture when one of the smaller weaker cons, who is also a technical wizard, hot wires a sterio to blow up in Birds face. Beck takes ot the Gang Leader. QUEUE CREDITS.

If I am not mistaken, that movie is Bad Boys, and "Swan" is actually Sean Penn.nativewarrior wrote:I remember watching this movie with my uncle and father about 'swan' (Michael Beck) in jail. I just read your post and you're right, it is Bad Boys. But again, is Sean Penn the main character and not Michael Beck. Ha ha ha ha, until recently, my wife used to think that Luther was actually Sean Penn!

Shame because he was great as Swan.

Yes, the only prison movie that Michael Beck was in, I know of, was Alcatraz the WHole Shocking STory.
He plays the youngest inmate to ever get sent to Alcatraz prison. and it is good. His character is based LOOSELY on real life Clarence Carnes--but MB plays him much nicer than he really was--but considering Carnes wrote the story and helped with the screenplay--they took liberties doctering him nicer to make him more likable. And Beck does a good job with the character.
My favorites with him(besides Warriors) are Alcatraz---and a tv movie called Rearview Mirror , where he is the bad guy, who kidnaps Lee Remick,
and Dead Run, or aka Stranger at my Door, with Markie Post that is good one too. HE plays a drunk rich man who kills someone.
He actually tends to be better in roles where he has a negative edge and is some what bad.
And for positive roles--I really have a guilty pleasure with Forrest Warrior, with Chuck Norris---it is sort of a fantasy outdoor save the envirnement type movie--but I enjoy the heck out of it once in awhile.
You know the critics did rag on Xanadu---but you know--it struck something with alot of people just like the Warriors did with some of us--because Xanadu is now 25 years old--and they are still having film fests for it, and fan gatherings and more people attend than you can imagine.
So it is almost as much a cult movie with its own following as Warriors or any others. So stiff acting and miscasting aside---it is still making money--and an awful lot of Oscar winners aren't.
I am neutral-didn't care much for the story---but am a big enough fan of MB that with a few changes--I could like it---I enjoy watching now and again just to see if there is something I may have missed. But I don't watch it like I do Warriors or Rearview Mirror.

I have to admit that Xanadu is my guilty pleasure. Michael Beck was really good in that show, but it was so cheesy that it was entertaining. He and Olivia Newton-John had decent chemistry, but it was not the best. And it was good to see him actually smile. He didn't smile much at all in the Warriors. There wasn't much of a plot to that show either. The music could have been better.

I don't think it's fair to lay all the blame on Xanadu. Beck didn't do himself any favors with Megaforce or Battletruck either.

Battletruck was just a B movie of its time--they were alot of them around the "mad max" thing---I didn't mind him in it--and though it would be a long way from a real favorite--for what it was-I enjoyed watching it. His Hunter character may have been alittle better if they would have found some humor someplace and not tried to take itself so seriously.
But I thoroughly enjoyed MB's Dallas in Megaforce----the whole movie was based on such a ridiculous premise that he and the Black guy, that listened to Valvaldi---were the only real characters in the whole show. AND I got a kick out of listening to him laugh and make fun of everything, his sense of humor in it made me howl.
Megaforce was definately no award winner--but it, like Xanadu and the Warriors, are three of his Theater released movies that I tend to watch whenever the mood strikes me--and I don't get tired of them, along with Forrest Warrior, and a couple of his "made for tv's".
