Seinfeld

Post by Marlboroprojects »

Surprising, there isn't a thread for this classic sitcom. I hardly watched this show while it was on until the laswt couple of seasons, but fell in love with it watching the re runs in syndication. I already have seasons 1-6 on dvd & can't wait for the rest to come out.

This was a show about "nothing". Just four friends picking away obsessively at life's little quirks was enough to make this one of the greatest shows ever. While Jerry was alright, in my opinion George & Kramer made the show with their nutty antics. Surprisingly, none has been able to find the success on their own that they had in this series. Here are some of my favorite episodes:

The Bubble Boy  - The whole gang decides to take a trip to "The Cabin", and along the way Jerry, Elaine, George, and Susan are suppose to stop off and see a sick fan of Jerry's, the "Bubble Boy". While Jerry & Elaine are at a diner asking for directions, George & Susan arrive first at the Bubble Boy's house. During a heated argument over a game of trivial pursuit ("It was MOORS!" "MOOPS!" "MOORS!" MOOPS!"), George accidently puctures the Boy's bubble, deflating it. As Jerry & Elaine arrive, George suggests they get out of there as the neighbors are getting restless. Meanwhile, Kramer & Jerry's ex girlfriend who weren't invited on the trip, arrive at the cabin first & Kramer accidently burns it down.

The Contest - Probably one of the most well known episodes. George's mother winds up in the hospital after catching George "doing that". ("My mother had a Glamour magazine; I started leafing through it?")
George then states he will never "do that" again. Jerry challenges him to a contest to see who can be the "Master Of Their Domain". Elaine & Kramer join in on the bet. In one of the funniest scenes in tv history, the gang notices a naked woman in the window of an apartment across from Jerry's. Kramer takes one look, leavews the apartment, comes back like 15 seconds later, slaps a hundred dollars on the counter, and yells "I'm out!"

The Outing - After being overheard by an eavsdropping college reporter in the diner, Jerry must work hard to prove he is straight when she mistakenly reports that he and George are gay, "not that there is anything wrong with that." Things go from bad to worse when the article is picked up by the NY Post. George (screaming at the top of his lungs like a lunatic at the reporter) "Do you wanna have sex right now?" "Lets go baby, I'm ready!"

The Puffy Shirt - George is forced to move in with his parents. He gets a job as a hand model and becomes obsessed with keeping his hands safe. Kramer's girlfriend, who designs clothes and talks with a real low voice (a "low talker"), asks Jerry a question that he politely answers yes to because he couldn't hear it. He agrees to wear one of her new puffy pirate shirts on a Today Show appearance he is making. After Jerry goes off on Bryant Gumble who can't stop talking about the shirt on the air, Kramers girlfriend attacks him with an iron, but unfortunately George's hands get in the way.

The Hamptons - Everyone makes a trip to the Hamptons to "see the baby" and enjoy the weekend. George's girlfriend goes topless and everyone sees her chest before he does. "The baby" is the most hideous thing they've ever seen. While George is in his room changing, Jerry's girlfriend accidently walks in on him. Unfortunately he just got out of the pool and is suffering from "shrinkage". ("I WAS IN THE POOL!!!, I WAS IN THE POOL!!!"). George gets back at her by fixing her an omelet with lobster, which she can't eat because it's not kosher.

The Invitations - As the big day grows nearer, George and Susan order their invitations. Susan lets him choose the cheap ones. George tries to think of a way out. Elaine suggests smoking  and Kramer suggests a pre-nuptial agreement. Jerry, thinking of a single future with Kramer, nearly gets hit by a car but is saved by his female equivalent, Jeannie. Jerry thinks he is in love with Jeannie. Kramer tries to cash in on a bank's offer of a $100 if one of their tellers doesn't say hello. Is "Hey," hello? George tries the suggestions and strikes out. Susan begins preparing the invitations. Jerry makes a decision. Susan passes out while licking envelopes. Jerry proposes marriage; later he has second thoughts. George finds Susan and the gang meets him over at the hospital, where George gets the news, he's out.

I love this show.  I don't have favorite episodes but rather moments.  Like, the conversation about the "switch."  That is a classic conversation.  The rest of that episode is just so-so to me.  Another moment that I really appreciate is the race against his old rival.  The superman theme is playing and he takes off early.
