Gang name meanings/symbolism

Post by cowboy rules »

Why do you think th gangs are called what they're called. I mean the Warriors, Baseball Furies and Electric Eliminators are pretty self explanatary. But what about gnags like The Moonrunners and the Turnbull AC's. Why do you think they're called that. I know the Saracens were a religion during the crusade or something like that, but why do you think they're called that? Your thoughts?

Good Topic! :D I think the MoonRunners probably just refers to them being most active at night and the Huns were barbarians that waged war in Asia a llloooonnngggg time ago, so I guess that's were the Savage Huns probably comes from. I think most of the names were references to things that were popular at the time like the, while others have historical meanings like you said with the Saracens, and I think Saracen used to be another word for muslim, but I'm not sure.

I saw in the gang listing on the movie site that there was a set called the Charlamagnes, which could be a reference King Charles the Great, and the Xenophons would refer to the greek general who wrote Anabasis which the Warriors novel is based on

Yes, the Saracens were what we call "Muslim" today, they were desert folks and their king Saladin liberated Jerusalem from the crusaders.
I see no reason for the Saracens (gang) to choose this name.

no, the Charlamagnes were named after the "grandfather of france" charlamagne. he was i guess the dude who discoverd france, and helped a great deal against the locals they were waging war against. as far back as i know though, his sword was supposed to have some power, and joan of arc found it and dug it up. she used that in the war against england. i may not have the facts completely straight, but that should be pretty close.

No Furies, the scimitars and the snake (in the video game) are most likely in the logo because to justify the name (the scimitar is a middle eastern sword, it was carried by many including the Saracens themselves).

Taylor, i'm not even europian, but i dig norse myth.

Check out the film moonrunners on imdb. It came out in 1975 before the Warriors was released.
The gang may either have adopted this persona as it refers to a gang of mombsters in New York City or it may just be a direct reference to the film, or even a continuation of the gang themselves.
