They scared me. The minute I saw the look on their face it scared me. And you know what the funny thing was? They were kids. Some of them probably still in school. I was their newly assigned Youth Worker . They didnt take too kindly to me. As soon as I walked into their 'Hangout' they just turned and glared at me. Like I was a piece of dirt under their shoe. I looked around nervously and stepped forward a bit. Then the one with long hair to his shoulders and a tough looking face stood up.

"Hey....um......I'm Todd, your new Youth Worker" I said
"Well who says we need a Youth Worker?" They boy said, he must have only been about 18.
"The Social Services say, and whethere you like it or not, I've to come by here at least twice a week" I told him sterlny, I was surprised I maaged to say that.
"Maybe we oughta wreck you right now" He said stepping forward. I felt cold beads of sweat running down my colour drawn face.#
"No, no theres no need to do that" I trembled, I was really  scared now.
"Hmph, we aint gonna do that. If you gotta come by here then so be it, but if theres any sign of you snitching to the fuzz, we wreck you. If you try to stop us doing our thing, the we wreck you. Understood?" He said sitting back down.
"Yeah....uh...of course"I said
"Good" He replied to me.
"Well why dont we start off by telling me about yourselfs?" I asked him

... I just spent a minute looking at all the emotes and there isn't one that can describe how awesome this is. Your writing style is excellent, and besides that, the idea is amazing. It's a great perspective, and this is now in the higher rankings of my favourite fan fictions just because of that. I can very easily see this being great.

'The Warriors huh? So what do you guys like to get up to?" I asked them. A Black boy with an afro stood up.
"What do you think?" He said in a deep voice
"Um....play football?" I said uncertainly
"Man, I aint even gonna anwer that. Were a gang, what do you think?" He mocked me.
"Okay, okay. Whats all your names then?" I asked. One with a stetson hat stood up. He was about 5 ft 6, he looked about 19.
"Names Cowboy" He said to me. How original!
"I'm Snow" The black boy I talked to earlier said
"Cochise" The other coloured member of the group said to me
"Hey, I'm Rembrandt" The young man said. He struck me as odd, he seemed a little......softer than the other boys.
"Whats up, I'm Vermin" Another said. Vermin!? What kind of names are those?
"Nice to meet you all.And what about you?" I asked what I now presumed the leader. He looked up slowly.
"Swan" He said plainly.
"Well good to meet you Swan, now I wanna say something" I said "I'm not gonna nag you guys and try to be all protective of you, 'cause basically its not my style, all I'm gonna do is try and show you a good time, without breaking the law!" I said. A few laughed feebly. " So I'll come by again tomorrow  and get to know you guys a little better". I turned and heard a few 'Byes' from them. I felt good, they werent the worst bunch I had ever worked with.

that's an excellent idea...i really liked the touch of swan's long hair...it'll be interesting ot see the ganglife of the warriors from a civilians eyes...i like it, i hope to see more soon ^_^;;

I woke up the next morning feeling good. I knew I could get through to those kids, they were good at heart. I went and saw them at 3 oclock. There was only a few in the 'hangout'. It was Rembrandt Cowboy and Vermin, the names still got me, maybe they were symbolic in a way.

"Hey" They said as I walked in.
"Hey guys how ya doin'" I replied "Wheres everyone else?" I asked
"Swan,Snow and Cochise are away to Gramercy to speak with another gang" Vermin told me
"Oh, ok. Well I'd like to get to know you three better in the mean time, so why dont we take a seat over here" I said sitting at the table.
"Now I want you to know, whats said here, stays here, its confidential. Understood?" They did understand
"Okay, now Rembrandt lets start with you. I want to know why you're in this gang" I asked
"Well....I guess for fun really, there aint much else to do around here. For protection too, with my buddies around nothin' bad can happen to me" He told me
"But dont you think that maybe you could start looking for a job or even start doing some other fun things?" I asked him.
"Maybe, but I like it here. I feel like I'm at home. Sure it would be good to get a little money, but I would be out of place" He said
"Son, you cant be out of place if you get a job. You're nearly 19 years old, you should be looking to your future. All of you should. Now Cowboy, what about you why do you stay with the gang?" I asked him. He thought for a minute, his eyes deep in concentration.
" 'Cause I aint got anywhere else to go, this is how I survive" He told me. I had heard it all before but this kid got to me. I pitied him.
"What about your family?" I asked
"I dunno where they are they left me when I was 15" He told me.
"Oh I'm sorry to hear that, but dont you-"

Just then the Swan boy flew through the door. He was out of breath.

"Guys get out here, we got Boppers everywhere!" He said. Boppers? I was confused. The three boys started running out the room.  "Lets get these fucks!" I heard Vermin said. I figured it was a fight.

"Guys, cant we sort this another way?" I pleaded. Swan turned round to me
"Shut up!" He shouted "I told you not to interfere with what we do, so clear off before trouble comes!"
"Okay okay, just dont ge hurt son" He looked at me filled with rage, but it wasnt aimed at me. I saw then that this gang was his heart and soul. He lived for this gang.

I stood at the window of the hangout watching the carnage outside. In all my time in social work I had never actually seen the boys fighting. It was sickening. Young men, still boys, fighting with each other over.....nothing basically. An outfit? A bit of land? I watched still as the 2 gangs kicked, punched and used whatever weapons they could on each other. Eventually the bloodshed stopped as these 'Boppers' ran away. The boys retreated back to their hangout in victory. I just stared at them in awe as they came in and sat down as if nothing had happened, some bleeding and hurt. Well most of them sat down. Swan and Snow went into a corner and began talking. I was going to walk over and see what was going on, but a stern look from Swan told me not to. Instead I approached Vermin.

"You okay?" I asked
"Haha...yeah man, I'm fine. So what were you sayin' before?" He asked. How could he do it? Continue talking as if it was just a normal day. I hesitated for a minute.
"What was that about?" I asked
"Hmph...punk ass Boppers tryin' to muscle in on us. They got what they deserved." He said
"Does it not concern you that because other boys try to 'muscle in' on your turf, you could've gotten killed!?" I asked "Killed over nothing, because you've got nothin' better to do than fight for no sane reason?" I asked
"Wow man cool it!" He said "Besides, its what we do for kicks, for fun"
"Fun? You call that fun?" I said pointing at the cut on his head that was bleeding
"You can make n omelette without cracking a few eggs eh?" He said, standing up and walking away, laughing. I sat for a minute or so thinking. For kicks? 'These boys had to get sorted, not just them, the whole fucking city' I thought. I sat for another minute until getting up and approaching Swan.....this would be hard.

This is a really neat idea, but my only gripe is your typing/grammar/spelling. If you cleaned this up it'd be a really premium story/continuation.

"Swan I wanna talk to ya" I said walking over to the boy. He had that same cold, hard stare in his eyes.
"Yeah?" He asked sternly.
"Well.....I wanna know why you're in this gang" I told him
"Why I'm in it?.......Survival" He said simply. This got me. Most of the boys said 'Nowhere else to go' or 'For fun'.
"Can't you survive by....maybe getting a job?" I asked him
"Who do you think would take me on huh?" He asked me. I thought for a moment, I didnt want to offend the boy.
"Maybe.....as a mechanic? You know anythin about cars?" I asked. Swan stood with his head down for a while then looked up, and stared me right in the eye. He never said anything.
"Ok....well, why not try and find something simple, part time like?" I asked him
"'Cause the guys need me......I gotta go now" He said walking away.
"Where you going?" I asked.
".....I'm goin' up to Bensonhurst, got some business to take care of" He said.
"Well do you want a ride?"
"No, the trains quicker" He said without looking back, Cowboy , Vermin and Snow followed him. 'Well this kids a handful!' I thought as left too, I needed a drink!
