Buying VHS
OK, I've searched and can't find much on the threads, so cool it.
Now boppers, like many cats I have become a Warriors nut only recently (whatever your feelings on Rockstar's interpretation, you can't deny they've done a lot to swell the numbers) through the game. And having gone nuts on eBay these last few months I'm looking to get a VHS of the movie- I think then I got everything I'll need.
What I'm asking is, what should I be looking for, ideally?
What year was the VHS originally released, and by whom?
What was the original sleeve art?
I've seen half a dozen on ebay but all different and the sellers themselves don't seem to know much, so any help would be appreciated. I can't figure out how this movie passed me by, I was growing up in 1979 and I would have gone apeshit for this.

Re: Buying VHS
Thanks, both.
Picking up a VHS is simple enough, but what I'm looking for is an old copy, as early as I can get. I've seen tapes from CIC and Paramount, with the kind of blue-wash art and the conclave art and was wondering what's what.
A bit geeky I know. Still, I'll have a nose around.

Re: Buying VHS
The video rental store by my house had a copy of the VHS tape. Its from Paramount and the cover of the box is the same as the movie poster and album cover.

Re: Buying VHS
Man, good question. I wonder if we could get a gallery of video box covers together. I'm sure it's been released under at least 3-5 different boxes. I'd be suprised if there was a video release from before 1984 or so. The home video retail market didn't take off until the late 80's with the release of Batman and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (the 1st major direct to video release).
The rental market had been rolling for a good 5-6 years at this point, but older movies didn't get too much attention, as there was a much higher cost on production than there is today.
VHS is pretty freaking cheap nowadays, I'd just buy all that you can get your hands on, and build a complete collection. (man, that's not even considering all the international releases!) Of course, I'm a crazy completest...
Let me know what you find out!

Re: Buying VHS
If they're cheap enuff, pick up both copies. The Vhs i have with the conclave art and green lettering is the version which "nowhere to run" was replaced by another track (was it nite run?). It took me by surprise when i first watched it.coldcheese wrote: Thanks, both.

I suppose its a possiblity. The now defunct reallivebunch site(rip) had a page that showed all the global releases. There will be a few members on here that never got the chance to visit that site. Im sure if enuff people request it, W.C will put it into consideration.alexfugazi wrote: Man, good question. I wonder if we could get a gallery of video box covers together. Re: Buying VHS
Alot of Video Rental stores in my area are phasing out VHS tapes and strictly renting DVD's. There is a Hollywood Video store that was selling 3 VHS tapes for a dollar. A friend called me to say he bought 300 tapes. It sounds crazy though to buy that many. How many can you watch before the player breaks down. I agree that it would be cool to buy some strictly for the box art.

I thought this was the earliest British VHS before the blue one came out?

Re: Buying VHS
Thats the earliest home retail version for this country. Im not 100% sure, but i think theres an earlier rental version with the larger case. Same cover art and it may have an X certificate instead of an 18. I watched the warriors on video back in 82, but that may have been a pirate copy.War Chief wrote: I thought this was the earliest British VHS before the blue one came out?

Re: Buying VHS
Wow...that's one of the worst put together ebay auctions I've ever seen...Text for miles, and a FLASH right in the middle of the video box.
Picture tips-
Take it OUTSIDE and don't use a flash.
Ebay picture services provides CROPPING tools that let's you cut the excess.
Auction tips-
DON'T EVER use a big font. It's best to get the most text in the smallest amount of space...it's easier for the viewer.
DON'T use italics through the whole auction. It doesn't look fancy, it just looks crappy.
DON'T bother to post reviews or the entire plot synopsis on the auction. No-one goes looking for a movie they don't know about on eBay. Instead describe the CONDITION of the media.
Sheesh! Amateurs!

Re: Buying VHS
I was thinking of compiling a photo-list of all the merchandise available for the movie including different book covers, the movie merch, rockstar merch etc etc.
I put that idea on the backburner but I might just do it!

Re: Buying VHS
War chief, an official clearinghouse of Warriors merch images would be sweet. I'm sure it shouldn't be that hard (it's not like you have to worry about a bunch of crazy tie-ins...Warriors pajamas, anyone?)
