The Warriors is the new Star Wars

Post by alexfugazi »

There I said it.  I won't take it back.  The Warriors is the new Star Wars.  It gives the viewer EVERYTHING they could want, ..it doesn't sell it self out 25 years later, and it leaves the fans wanting MORE.

When I first saw the Warriors early 2005, I realized...'this is it.  This is the film that was missing from my childhood."

And then I thought- "Star Wars can go stick it."

When you think about it, the films are quite similar.
Both are completely a Boy's adventure film, Both take place in a realistic 'fantasy land' (and before anyone jumps all over me, The Warriors, while taking place in a real enviornment, does not accurately depict 70's gang life), they both have mouthy tough female leads with a mostly chaste love subplot.  Both, while featuring a lot of Action and fisticuffs,  are actually quite light on the violence.

The main difference?  The Warriors is no whore.  It's beautiful and simple, and it doesn't crap all over itself 25 years down the line.  It doesn't make you wonder, "Gosh, what did I see in that film anyway?"

This post is my break up letter to Star Wars.  There's a new, more dangerous, and therefore more appealing girl in town...I'm exclusive with the Warriors from here on out.  I traded my lightsabre in for a spiked baseball bat.

I agree with you on most cases, but I still love the original Star Wars trilogy. Not the new ones, and I still love The Warriors alot more.

Can't argue with you about the warriors greatness.  But, as far as crapping on itself 25 years later, the ultimate director's cut was a fairly big turd, IMO.

i didnt mind the new trilogy of star wars. with the exception of attack of the colones, it was pretty entertaining. i never really wanted anything more  from the movie then to be entertained. and i got it. but yeah, attack of the colones sucked. and i liked the warriors more than any of the star wars films anyway.

Man, I FORGOT about the so-called "Ulitmate Director's Cut" fiasco...at least BOTH versions of the film are available.  The special features on that disc are pretty dang nice, though...makes it almost forgivable.

And, all things considered, as bad as those animated interludes turned out, it didn't affect the structure of the story of characters...like say, Han Solo no longer shooting first at Greedo.

I'm sorry Alexfugazi, but the Warriors does most definately not have an epic trilogy based on the idea. Guess who does!

Isn't that the Beastie Boys 'Sabotage' video?! MCA being 'Cochese'... Good choice soldierthemiddle!  :D

Back on topic, I never saw the attraction to the Star Wars series, so I've always looked at the Warriors as being above it (feel free to castrate me, die hard's! ).

But...but...but...Star Wars has Wookiees! WOOKIEES I TELLS YA! Oh wait...Vermin's chesthair...

Anywho, I like both the Star Wars movies and The Warriors. I'm not so broken up about the changes they made to the original Star Wars trilogy because I've most likely never saw (or remember) the original version, because that wasn't my generation. Heck, I was seven when the Special Edition versions were released, and that was LONG before I realized how kickass Star Wars was.

Hm...now who would win, Ajax or Vader? *Coughcough*VADER*Coughcough*
