Does doing weights really make you short..?

Post by warlord jp »

Well this is the golden question for me. I did weights a couple of months back, but i got to lazy and quited, and now im back pumpimg arm like crazy. Every day i do meatal weights that weight 20 pounds, 40 times on each arm, and do 40 push ups... this is daily. So can to much exercise be bad? Because there is like 5 people in my school that are short, and they claim its for weightifting, and theyre buff though. And sometimes when i do weights i feel a weird sensation in both of my legs... I dont want to be short!!
so help will be apreciated.
laters.

Well we could turn this into a little experiment!
We need to measure your height and how much you are lifting - and how often.
Yeah heheyeah, lets do it!

But seriously if you're worried, I'm guessing Arnie is still tall.
He's lifted plenty

If you continually lift weights you'll grow at a much slower rate, some stop growing, weights every once in a while wont hurt but too much messes up your grow rate. And lifting doesnt actually make you shrink.

i lifted weights at one time but then i stopped, i never shrunk when i did it!
I might start again. the main reason i stopped was because it takes so long for visible changes to take place and they don't make you amazingly tougher. I lifted weights for about 3 months and then stopped but i still beat a guy who has been lifting for 2 years in a boxing match. ;)

Of course not! whoever told you that is either joking,or is messed up in the head!.It doesn't make you smaller at all,Im tall and a work out a couple times a week. But if your still growing, your too young to be working out anyways.I heard it diverts muscles from other places in your body,to the part whatever you working out on.And as for that feeling in your legs your either lifting too much and damaging yourself,or its just the burn!
We're gonna make it back. We came this far and we're gonna make it the rest of the way!

you 15, thats not bad....do only light weight action, even if you get some weight on you and can lift more stick to the light weights untill your 17 or so. i played hockey young and they had us lift very light weights.

You shouldn't do too much weightlifting when you're still growing because it WILL stunt your growth. Running and stamina training is always good and while a little weightlifting wont hurt you shouldn't overdo it.

We do weight training in my gym class, our coach doesnt mind us lifting heavy weights unless we can handle it.

does lifting weights stunt your growth or make you short?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!
and jp you should not even be concerend if the only exercises you do are curls and push ups, lol  ::)
if you are trying to build up muscle for the chicks then do heavier weights for more reps, HAHAHHAa but curls just make your bicepes unperportional (sp?)
and that feeling in your legs is good, it is probably the lactic acid building up (eat protein after working out) But don't workout the same muscles to many days in a row because they need time to rest!!
and if you are short now, do squats with some weight for more then 6 reps and they will build up GH level actually making you taller and more jacked 8) :D

+ lifting weights didn't stunt shaq's growth
