Remar or DeNiro as Ajax

Okay I looked this up but it doesn't come up...and this closely relates to the "DeNiro or Cowboy" topic...

I was watching Mean Streets the other day and felt that DeNiro kind of reminds me of Ajax in the movie...except Ajax was a lady chaser but Johnny Boy wasn't...yet they were both troublemakers...I'm not saying I would have been a good idea to have casted DeNiro for either Cowboy or Ajax...but any opinions on this?

No Robert Diniro would have been all talk, Ajax was all talk and all Mucsle. I mean compare their strength and how fit they are. I think James Remar surpases Robert Diniro in every category for playing the role of Ajax.

This movie is unbelieveble wonderful even because there weren't famous actors, I like it a lot for this reason too.

And also, lets not forget that Walter Hill wanted more of a realistic approach, of real people in real situations.  Robert Deniro became famous from Taxi Drive, so it would have messed up Walter Hill's image of average unknown people.

I mentioned this on the DeNiro/Cowboy topic.  DeNiro would of taken the value and the focus from the film and the other characters.  So I am glad they stuck with Remar, I don't think anyone else could pull Ajax off but him

No James Remar had that look and gave Ajax the bad ass I don't give a crap character.

James Remar made thae character his own in that movie and any other choice would have effected the film for the worse.
