The Beatles: White Album Info

Post by Lion »

Anyone has any info on this album.  I have looked at different sources with diffrent information, but I thought I would ask you guys and see if you knew something.  I mainly want to know about songs and album cover and album name.  This is what I have found out:

The original name:  A Doll's House (don't know what cover they had in mind)
Some original songs that were pulled out:
Junk
Not Guilty
Mary Jane
Jealous Guy (different sound)
Look At Me
Los Paranoias
You Know My Name

If there is more let me know.

this was the last album where they did a alt. mono mix in the UK

cover was by Richard Hamilton...orginal covers have stamped serial number on them

the letter colors have changed from grey,to black, to grey & black depending on the release date and  type of media (cd,record etc)

also the orginal record was pressed onto a white record instead of black

i know a little more but ether way as a side note dj danger mouse sampled the whole white album and mixed it with jay-z - the black album to make the grey album...it sparked alot of issue's with the beatles people (jay didnt care)

jay went on to preform with paul.m & linkin park live...

also a video was made useing jay0-z footage and beatles footage...for one of the grey album songs

you can view it here

http://youtube.com/watch?v=3zJqihkLcGc

the video much like the album is amazing how they put it together if people can set aside the fact that somone mashed the beatles with jay-z and just see the talent it took to make both the album and video...but anyway im rambling off topic....

Thanks guys.  I don't know but I am really obsessed with this album.  I know it has been around for ages, but it still moves me in a good way.  It's funny because I don't have any other record from The Beatles except this one, I have heard the other ones.  This is my favorite album.  I do have the "grey album" and I think Jay-Z and Co. did a superb job mixing all the tracks with new lyrics.  Being that Helter Skelter is my favorite song, 99 problems just blew my mind when I heard it. :D

I have the Beatles White Album with the white vinyl records - I bought it in the early 70's.  It is one of my favorite Beatles albums.  I have every LP that they released - even 2 or three of some of them.  I also own The Illustrated Lyrics book that was mentioned in an earlier post.

I believe that the Beatles White Album was originally to be a concept album that would be 2 LPs.  One side of each record was supposed to be for songs written by each band member (ie. one for Paul, one for John, etc..).  It was during the time that the group was having problems working together.  George and especially Ringo had trouble creating songs to fill their sides for the album.

There's quite a bit of info on the White Album in Wikipedia:

No Yesterday and Today album with the Butcher Cover....wish I did.  I do have Yesterday and Today - but the regular one.  They released a few of those albums with baby dolls cut up and blood and stuff all over the place - it did not go over very well.  So they changed the album cover design.  Some of the Butcher Covers were covered over by the new design and sent to the stores.  There were alot of people trying to peel off their covers to see if they got one of the Butcher Cover albums.

I do have a rare copy of Introducing the Beatles by VeeJay Records - its worth quite a bit.

A song also left out on the album was George Harrison's "Not Guilty".  It shouldn't have been, it's a cool tune.  But George always had to play second and third fiddle to Lennon and McCartney.

Another strange aspect to The White Album is the association of the music and the actions of Charles Manson.  He thought that the Beatles were speaking to him through the music - telling him to gather his followers together and start a war.  The war was supposed to be as a result of the tension between whites and blacks.

Manson and "his Family" ended up murdering a few people and getting themselves thrown in jail.

What happen was, the records where printed up, but when they sent promos to stores and radio stations, (this is called a "First state" cover, super rare worth many, many thousands) they all freaked, after all, these where the four mop tops that, just a couple of years ago wanted to
"Love, love  Me Do" and here they are cover in pig or cow intestines , meant to look like baby guts.
So they had all these records with this cover. So they covered them up with A new picture and those where sent out for public sale.  years later the glue began to loose it's hold and people discovered this hidden picture. some left it alone, this is a "Second  state" being worth anywhere from $1,200 to $1,500. some had the outer cover removed by a professional (if they were smart) and these are called " third state" which can go from  $100 - 5 or $600 depending on if they still have the cover that was removed and how well it was done.
here's one on ebay

For those of you who own only 1 or 2 beatles albums, or don't own any (god forgive you) I suggest you get your buts to the music store and buy REVOLVER and RUBBER SOUL. The 2 most influential albums of all time (along with SGT. PEPPER of course).
As for the "White Album" that was the begining of the end. from that point on, unfortunatly, everything they did together was a struggle.
Let it be (original tilte was "Get Back") was "so bad", they thought, that it won't be released. instead they would go back to the studio and record Abbey Road, the last recording the four would ever do together. After the break up John gave the tapes to Phil Spector to remix and that was the "Let It Be" album that was released. in 2003 they put out "Let it be"- Naked which was the original mix.

It'd be interesting to see what kind of footage is used in conjunction with Revolution #9.

btw....  I googled revolution number 9 and, at the top of the list, I found......    Revolution Number 9 Lyrics and Backwards Audio.  Clicked on that and saw a detailed break-down of this track.  You can also listen to it backwards.  Check it out!!!!
